I heard the other day that there is a new Thai restaurant opening on Cheung Sha beach. Does anyone know if it has already opened or when it is due to? Has anyone been? Is it good?

Hello EJHK

I have heard this too. I went to have a look last weekend and it is still very much under renovation.

Someone mentioned to me that they heard it is opening in September - but this is very much a rumour! If you hear anything further please let us know.

We have been one week ago.
well.....the lime juice for hkd 32 is a rip off : a tiny glass full of ice cubes and not so tasty.
The food is average but not bad.
Our feeling : very expensive for what you get during week ends.

We don't want to say anything bad because it's a new business but it would be nice if they could adjust their prices.
We wish them all the best.

Went one evening last week and sat at one of the tables on the beach. Lovely spot. Food was OK, nothing special but fine. However, charging Soho prices on Lantau is just plain unacceptable. I'm all for supporting local businesses, and Lantau needs more dining options, but I won't be going back until/unless they drop their prices...

I remember and and am still sad about the loss of the local Chinese restaurants on Cheung Sha. Excellent food, excellent price and service, stay for hours - kids and dogs run around on the beach and you pull your beers out of an old freezer. Bill worked out with what you had on the table. I loved it! Learned to use chopsticks there 12 years ago. Sad it is now so overpriced and (dare I say it!) Westernised. Kinda killed it for me.

I went a few weeks ago with 3 of my friends, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. The beachside location was superb, but I was quite pleased with the food we ordered. We had some prawn cakes to start off with, followed by yellow Thai curry, some pad thai, pineapple fried rice and a papaya salad. Portions were good size and food was good quality. On top of that we ordered half a dozen of beers, all came to around $350, and they didn't charge for service. It definitely beats soho for location.

We went soon after it opened and thought the food was very good and the service was pretty bad but the location more than made up for it. It has gone down hill since then and sadly the last visit was the final nail.

Tried to explain this to the staff but they just said we didn't understand Thai food.

The 'Thai' fried rice was awful, bland and tasteless mixed with some tinned corn and tinned carrot.
