Does anyone know the opening date for the new Tung Chung road?

I thought it was supposed to be in June, but that is clearly not the case.

I have just received an email from the Highways Department that the new road opening was scheduled for mid 2008 but has been 'deferred to about end-2008' due to 'the damage and disruption brought by the recent severe rainstorms from April to June 2008'

This is assuming they 'do not encounter similar severe rainfall in the coming months.'

Looks like the latest date is Dec 31st, as posted on the "Completion date" signs at the road entrance.
How annoying that they keep postponing the date.
I guess that it's hard to expect much when it's the LOWEST bidder that gets the contract....

I akso heard that road delay is due to damage caused during storms. Rumour has it that the current contractors did not carry out correct drainage and road was severley damaged during the storm and that govt now taking legal action against contractor.
