Just walked my doglette to the beach in Tong Fuk (village beach) and...yikes, the beach has been destroyed by Hagupit! Typhoon WAS pretty fierce here. Combination of typhoon, north-westerly wind drag and high tides, I presume.
Hadn't time to walk the length of it (scramble over boulders, really), and dusk was gathering so I couldn't make a proper inspection, but piles of boulders from the Eastern headland have been redistributed throughout the length of the beach - no headland left, really, and all the sand has been washed away or thrown up, along with rubble, way beyond the back of the beach.... lifeguard's buildings stand on concrete stalks and the short paths to the beach are blocked by towering mounds of sand and rubble - I got there via the village green.
I suppose that's why all the villages on South Lantau are built well back from the coastline.
It has been devastated! I'm so sad. If I get time tomorrow I'll try to take a pic and post it. What's happened at other beaches on Lantau?
