Just walked my doglette to the beach in Tong Fuk (village beach) and...yikes, the beach has been destroyed by Hagupit! Typhoon WAS pretty fierce here. Combination of typhoon, north-westerly wind drag and high tides, I presume.

Hadn't time to walk the length of it (scramble over boulders, really), and dusk was gathering so I couldn't make a proper inspection, but piles of boulders from the Eastern headland have been redistributed throughout the length of the beach - no headland left, really, and all the sand has been washed away or thrown up, along with rubble, way beyond the back of the beach.... lifeguard's buildings stand on concrete stalks and the short paths to the beach are blocked by towering mounds of sand and rubble - I got there via the village green.

I suppose that's why all the villages on South Lantau are built well back from the coastline.

It has been devastated! I'm so sad. If I get time tomorrow I'll try to take a pic and post it. What's happened at other beaches on Lantau?

I heard that silvermine was pretty bad as well... the walk way in front of the hotel I heard was a disaster... plus styro-foam all around and rubbish, and the beach was very filty..... :(

Mui Wo Beach has been pretty badly wacked as well. all the rubbish from 50 mile radius has been dumped here, also we have lost a lot of trees. footpath in front of Silvermine Bay Hotel has been washed out! Plenty damaged Boats, canoes, surf boards strewn along the beach. it looks like a war zone.

Well, the lifeguards have cleared the paths and the light of day, and low tide, revealed some sand - just several feet lower than its original level.
So..... here are some pix. Must say, the sunshine made it all look a little less depressing than yesterday.

Thanks for posting the photos. I know what to look forward to when I return to HK next week.

there was a great big slab of concrete (not sure where it came from) about 2m x 2m x 1m on Pui O beach. I was surprised to see it is now on the boulder about 1 meter above the river feeding the beach! I'll get a photo.

Having seen the styrofoam and rubbish nastiness on the way to work on Wednesday (Mui Wo ferry & bus station) - at least that crap is not still in the sea & hopefully will be collected and disposed of appropriately.

Have to say tho, I thought the downgrading of the typhoon was a bit early for Lantau as at 5am there was still vicious winds and flying debris.
