For those who missed this story in SCMP on Sunday, yet another disgraceful case of govt inaction.
A huge oil slick stretches as far as the eye can see. And along the shoreline of the island, which houses a correctional institute and a drug rehabilitation centre, there is a rim of black sludge.
The cause of this environmental disgrace? A half-sunk 51.2-metre fuel-transport ship, the Gulf 16, which has decayed to such an extent that it has disgorged its fuel into the water and along the shoreline.
The vessel has been laid up in the Hei Ling Chau typhoon shelter since early 2006. It's been leaking oil for the last two months - nothing has been done.
