Mid Autumn festival

Does anybody know what is happening for Mid Autumn Festival on South Lantau Island? Are there any beaches where people go with lanterns? Will it be on Sunday night or Monday night?

Mui Wo and Pui O beaches are usually pretty busy from my experience.

Pui O they would let off big lanterns to float over the hills but I think they have put a stop to that because of issues with hill fires.

Last year in Mui Wo they also had some lanterns but they were tethered and so would only rise 30 feet or so.

Bit late now, but in my village in Mui Wo, they do let off the giant lanterns (not tethered), but there is also a team of guys who chase it and douse any fires. This has been their system for many years, and it works very well. In many ways, the race to catch and douse it is more impressive than the lantern itself.
