given the recent break-ins in south lantau, it is worth putting pressure on our local bobbies to do regular night patrols. call 2984 2660 / 6200 to request your very own.
check that they put up a small metal box in which they use to keep a form that must be signed by each patrol

can anyone recommend good, affordable security devices?

To be fair, I did bump into 3 uniformed plod seemingly on patrol in Pui O at 2am last saturday as I stumbled home from JKs.
