Hi there. There will be a new cafe/bistro opening in tong fuk selling proper european bread and pastries, tea and coffee, as well as sandwiches and a light meals menu. We will be opening from 7.30am on Monday 8th September providing the kitchen has been completed in time!

Eddie's Cafe/Bistro will be in the Riverside Restaurant premises next door to the Fair View Inn.
Our soft opening will be Monday at 7.30am as anticipated, despite some of the finer details and display cabinets not turning up as promised by suppliers.
The kitchen has all been finished with the exception of the sink unit, but all cooking appliances ready and working. We will then more than likely have an opening party on Saturday 20th which should give ample time for us to find our feet and the display suppliers to have run out of excuses!!!
Opening times will be 7.30am - 9.30pm and we will be selling breads, pastries, fresh to order sandwiches and a light meals menu in the evening with a choice of wines (both ordinary plonk and some fine wines too).
I very much hope that Eddie's will become a firm favourite with the residents of Lantau and look forward to it all happening very soon!

Visited Eddie's place recently and food is fine, v homemade, good portions, etc. Really lacking in atmosphere and decor, way too hot inside (invest in a better air con guys) but staff are friendly. Also tough to find - desperately needs some good signage, I drove past it several times before spotting it. However, v pleased to see somewhere new in S Lantau and wish you luck with this new business...

We are still in 'soft opening' stages...lack of deliveries (one of which being the signs) has meant our progress has been limited, but we are open from 12pm-10.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 7.30am-10.30pm on weekends. Closed on Mondays. We have not advertised fully yet, nor handed out cards as we do not have the equipment to cater to a high enough standard if too busy and wish to start as we mean to go on as far as food is concerned. Please bear with us. We are hoping to have it all rectified as soon as possible.

Well done to the guys and girls at Eddie's!
The food is top notch (not surprisingly as the boss is the head chef at a swanky seafood restaurant in Central) with a quite simple menu, but one from which I wanted to try almost every item. We shared mussels imported from New Zealand which are a million times softer ands juicier than the fare you get at local seafood restaurants and then I had fish & chips which was a LOT of fish, not too much batter and LOTS of chips - they even remembered the malt vinegar - to an English man very important.
Other Tong Fuk outlets take note, the service was very friendly, relaxed, knowledgeable of the menu, polite and timely even when very busy.
And busy they were last night, so when their (very wise) 'soft opening period' is over and the sign goes up, be sure to book your table well in advance.
Eddie's is going to rock South Lantau!

maybe this glowing review was posted by the owners ...?
Can this be the same place we're talking about (I've visited three times)? Yes, the food was fine (suprised to hear the owner IS a professional chef ... from DotCod, I believe), but service each time was pretty basic, chat and friendliness next to zero, atmosphere clinical ... Glad to hear it is only in the soft opening phase and will watch with eagerness to see improvements.

Congratulations Eddie on your new venture. I hope it all works out for you. Regarding the bakery side, this is an untapped resource in Mui Wo. Create an Ali-Oli (Sai Kung) or better here and you will have a lot of business outside your restaurant. Have a distributor in Mui Wo (any of the bars, coffee places or restaurants) and you will have a market for good bread (fresh wholemeal, lo-carb, etc.) Peng Chau has, Cheung Chau has, Lamma has and we have.....EDDIE! Yay!

I think every new restaurant needs a period of time to improve. I've visited there three times also and I can see that it's improvising and trying to get things more organized. Just give it some time, dah?
Oh by the way, it's time for you to get off your huffy bike.

I'm happy to tell you it was not a note from the owners. Constructive criticism is one thing, but aren't you going a little too far now?
If you really feel this, perhaps you should mention it to us when in the restaurant rather than just putting uncalled for and incorrect posts up on here.

as stated earlier, hoping that you DO do well, no hidden agenda, simply feedback ... don't take it so personally, make some changes ... proof is in the proverbial pudding guys ...

Hi Eddie, will definately come and check out your new place. Now the big question - can you cater for vegetarians? (I can hear the Chef swearing already!!). Really, a good, fresh salad makes us very happy. If you have a nice fresh pasta or risotto dish - bonus!

Well, HB, that is correct. But surely better to inform the staff/ management of the restaurant than to give an anonymous public critique? Sure, you may well be correct, but we ought to give any new business in South Lantau our big support? Teething troubles are normal for a new F&B venture.

Hi CattyGirl,
Sorry to have taken so long in responding. It has been a very busy time.
We are in the final stages of changing the menu now that we know what sort of market we are dealing with and aiming for.
Coming soon we will have a far larger variety of choice for vegetarians, including things like lentil and goat's cheese salad, pinenut and basil pasta and asparagus and black olive quiche with salad. As the weather begins to cool, more vegetarian options will come in, including risotto and vegetable casseroles.
The food will be steering away from deep fried and will be more bistro than 'greasy spoon' helped by the completion of equipment in the kitchen and staff training.
Do let us know when you decide to pop in and we can always accommodate specific tastes.
We look forward to seeing you in Eddie's.

Hi Eddie
I really do agree with Cattygirl we need to support local business especially new F&B. Can you confirm your opening hours as my husband and I came down to Tong Fuk from Mui Wo to try out your place but you were closed. We came by at around 12.20pm last Tuesday. Do you allow dogs, perhaps seating outside?
Good to see alternative dishes on the menu for veggies other than the usual Veg Pizza and Mushroom Risotto.

Hi there!
As things stand, we are open evenings only during the week, and then from 7.30am-11.30am and then 6pm-11pm on saturdays, sundays and public holidays.
Although I have three dogs, it is a dog free restaurant as some people aren't keen on them and kids can be rather rough with them at times which could make for unpleasant situations.
We are trying to organise seating outside but have to go through the lenghthy process of waiting for an answer from the landlord. Will keep you posted on that one. Thanks for showing both interest and support and hope to see you in Eddie's in the not too distant future.

HI Ed! I am printing my first photo book about the water buffalos on Lantau Island and would like to know if your new outlet will be interested in distributing the book? You can see more details on the website at http://web.me.com/yangdesign

Erhem... I find blatant self-promotion a real turn-off. I was quite interested in the book till I read this. That's a private matter, surely, and in my view has no place here.
