wireless network! Which one

i want to have wireless network in my house. in the shop there are many choices of brand and some more expensive . which brand is good and why would i want more expensive one?

I would recommend getting a decent brand as the set up instructions and software will be a lot clearer. Also, some makes you can buy the software, by default, is not in English and you would need to get the store to change it for you.

The more expensive wireless routers can often have further range. This depends on your requiremet - a one floor flat would need a less powerful router than a 3 storey house. If you want coverage to extend to a garden again something more powerful is required.

The coverage is based on the type. An 802.11G (or just 'G') type has less coverage than a 'G1' or 'G Mimo'. Type 'N1' will give much greater coverage.

Don't forget, if you want to use more powerful wireless routers you will require more powerful wireless cards in your PCs and Notebooks on the network.

Hi

ASUS or Buffalo have some good solutions, which model depends on the layout of your home, how many floors, do you want to use it outside or on the roof, in which case you made need another box to extend the range. Also need to secure your new network or other people can use it.

A reasonable unit to cover a 700 sq ft flat should set you back around HK$400, you'll probably need help setting it up.

It's all about positionning the router correctly. If you have a 3 storey house, you must position the router on the middle floor. Also don't put it in a corner. The closer to the "center" of the house, the better the reception will be on the adjacent floors.

Anyone trialled this? Is it strong enough for home use as an alternative to Netvigator wireless service.
if you've used it, is the monthly tariff as low as $99 as advertised?
